While K-Pop idols are no strangers to funky hair colors, the latest hairdye trend being donned by currently promoting idols is definitely a switch-up to what we usually see!

The latest trend is a two-toned ‘chunky’ hair dye focused to the bang or front of the face. The look was first popular in the 1990s alternative rock scene, with celebrities like Cindy Crawford, Christina Aguilera, and Geri ‘Ginger Spice’ Halliwell, and now the K-Pop scene is giving it an edgy revival!

Let’s look at some of our favorite examples of this look:

Jiwoo’s Instagram

KARD’s Jiwoo

Could KARD’s Jiwoo look any more ‘girl crush’ in her chunky highlight look? We’re so used to seeing her in her trademark bleached blonde, but her updated black-and-blonde hairstyle for ‘Red Moon’ promotion was so hot!

TWICE’s Instagram

TWICE’s Chaeyoung

Chaeyoung celebrated her 21st birthday with a very funky yet feminine take on the look that we just love. Like Jiwoo, her hair was a contrast of black and bleached blonde, but the beachy, laidback waves added a romantic touch.

(G)I-DLE’s Instagram

(G)I-DLE’s Minnie

Here we have Minnie’s black-and-tan look from a recent set of photos celebrating her debut anniversary. Not only does she look completely regal in that purple-accented look, but her hair is giving us major fashion doll vibes!

NCT 127’s Instagram

NCT’s Mark

Mark’s bold yellow chunk highlight look from NCT 127’s ‘Kick It’ promotions was definitely as memorable as it was wild! We love the two ways he wore his highlights – more bold on the left and swept subtly to the side on the right.

ASTRO’s Twitter

ASTRO’s Sanha

We love how Sanha’s ‘Knock Knock’ hair is as playful as he is! While most of his hair is black, bright blue pops through his bangs. It looks even more fresh when he’s rocking it with a hat – which he did quite a few times this promotion!

Oh My Girl’s Binnie

Binnie’s hairstyle is all the summer inspiration we need! Not only does this cropped style look completely chic and comfortable, but the turquoise-on-black is perfectly punk and really pops with her solid-colored fashion.

And there you have it! Six of theQoos’ favorite block-colored highlight looks!
